PRESENT
My brother goes kayaking at Laburnum Boat club. I took him to a taster session and he hopped in without hesitation. Once inside of the kayak he paddled off with the group along the canal. All was lovely until a serious thunderstorm struck. There was huge rain and lightening and thunder and everyone on dry land was anxious about themselves as well as the young people on the canel. My mum rang me at that exact moment to ask me where my brother was. I had to admit I had indeed just sent him out into the storm.
When the soaking children returned they told bold tales of how they hide under bridges and held onto the canal bank as the water became choppy. My brother (who is autistic) gave me a thumbs up and told me he was coming back tomorrow. He then went on to attend the boat club for about 4 years. Which was great.
